Wool Pads

Wool Pads

Characteristics of Wool Pads

Wool pads can be broadly classified into two types, depending on the manufacturing method: one that uses wool as the fabric after fiber processing, and the other that uses natural leather with the skin called boa as it is. Currently, the processed fabric type is the mainstream, and there are many variations from short hair to long hair according to the usage.

Manufacuring Methods of Wool

The characteristics of wool vary greatly depending on the breed, age, and place of production of the sheep. The synonymous merino is the most widely distributed wool in the world and is classified as one of the finest wools. Furthermore, varieties are divided according to the country of origin, and among them, Australian Merino is the most popular and high quality.

Australian Merino Wool

It is characterized by being the whitest, thinnest and most crimped wool. The fibers are long, strong, and flexible, making it the most suitable wool for clothing. It is classified into three types according to the thickness of the fiber.

  • 1

    Fine Merino Wool

It is used for high-grade fine worsted fabrics.

    Fiber thickness
    18-19 microns
    Average fiber length
    about 70-75mm
  • 2

    Middle Merino Wool

It is used for worsted fabrics and ultra-luxury blankets.

    Fiber thickness
    20-22 microns
    Average fiber length
    about 90 mm
  • 3

    Strong Merino Wool

It is used for worsted fabrics and luxury blankets.

    Fiber thickness
    23-25 microns
    Average fiber length
    about 100 mm

There are various types of buffing pads that use wool. The production method of the wool itself also differs depending on the type. When using processed wool like HAYABUSA Wool Pad, there are two types of manufacturing methods depending on how the wool yarn is made.

  • Woolen yarn

A manufacturing method that creates a single yarn by twisting the hair. It is easy to do, but since short hair is also used, fraying and lint are likely to occur.

  • Worsted yarn

A method of combing wool fibers to remove short fibers and twisting only the long fibers into yarn. It is expensive because the fibers that can be used are limited, but it is strong and does not easily fray. HAYABUSA Wool Pad uses only worsted yarn and weaves it into fabric. We offer products that are durable and have little hair loss. This fiber is used to manufacture MOLT AIR, Feather Eyas, Fine Eyas, and White Eyas.

Fabric Manufacturing Method for Tapered Wool Pads

There is a base of fabric on the top and bottom, between which threads are woven to a specific length. After weaving, cut the threads in half to create a wool pad fabric. For example, if the fiber length is 6mm or 8mm, sew in 12mm or 16mm accordingly.

Shrink Proofing

HAYABUSA Wool Pads are made from carefully selected wool that is shrink-proof and mold-proof. When wool is washed with water, it shrinks, and when it is rubbed, the fibers become entangled and stiffen, causing a felting phenomenon. However, polishing requires wool that retains its flexibility and elasticity, which are important factors when being used with polishing compounds, and that can be washed before use. So, each fiber is shrink-proof processed with the special liquid agent. This process enables repeated use for a long period of time without impairing the texture of the wool.
